Context of Psalms 102:4
2Do not hide your face from me when I am in trouble. Turn your ear toward me. Answer me quickly when I call. 3My days disappear like smoke. My bones burn like hot coals. My heart is beaten down and withered like grass because I have forgotten about eating. 5I am nothing but skin and bones because of my loud groans. 6I am like a desert owl, like an owl living in the ruins.

It is first smitten with the scythe, and then withered by the sun. Thus the Jews were smitten with the judgments of God; and they are now withered under the fire of the Chaldeans.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 4My heart is smitten - Broken; crushed with grief. So that I forget to eat my bread - I am so absorbed in my trials; they so entirely engross my attention, that I think of nothing…Read the comment
