Context of Numbers 10:28
26Pagiel, son of Ochran, commanded the army of Asher. 27Ahira, son of Enan, commanded the army of Naphtali. This was the order in which the Israelite armies broke camp when they went from place to place. 29Moses said to his brother-in-law Hobab, son of Reuel the Midianite, “We are going to the place the Lord promised to give us. Come with us. We will be good to you, because the Lord has promised good things to Israel.” 30Hobab answered, “No, I won’t go. I want to go back to my own country where my relatives are.”

True religion begins with the knowledge of the holy law of God, and humiliation for sin, but we must go on towards perfection, in acquaintance with Christ and his gospel, and those effectual encouragements, motives, and assistances to holiness, which it proposes. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-28The order of march described here is different from 2:3–34. There, all three Levitical clans carried the tabernacle and its furnishings in the center of the camp. The Gershonites and Merarites carried the structural parts of the tabernacle between Judah and Reuben. The Kohathites carried the most sacred…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-362. Make thee two trumpets of silver--These trumpets were of a long form, in opposition to that of the Egyptian trumpets, with which the people were convened to the worship of Osiris and which were curved like rams' horns. Those which Moses made, as described by Josephus and represented on the arch of Titus, were straight, a cubit or more in length, the tubes of the thickness of a flute. Both extremities bore a close resemblance to those in use among us…Read the comment
