Context of Numbers 10:28
26Pagiel son of Ochran was over the division of the tribe of Asher’s descendants, 27and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali’s descendants. This was the order of march for the Israelites by their military divisions as they set out. 29Moses said to Hobab, descendant of Reuel the Midianite and Moses’s relative by marriage, “We’re setting out for the place the Lord promised, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.” 30But he replied to him, “I don’t want to go. Instead, I will go to my own land and my relatives.”

True religion begins with the knowledge of the holy law of God, and humiliation for sin, but we must go on towards perfection, in acquaintance with Christ and his gospel, and those effectual encouragements, motives, and assistances to holiness, which it proposes. They took their journey…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-28The order of march described here is different from 2:3–34. There, all three Levitical clans carried the tabernacle and its furnishings in the center of the camp. They marched between the groups led by Judah and Reuben, and the groups led by Ephraim and Dan. In this passage, the arrangement is more detailed. The Gershonites and Merarites carried the structural parts of the tabernacle between Judah and Reuben. The Kohathites carried the most sacred…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-362. Make thee two trumpets of silver--These trumpets were of a long form, in opposition to that of the Egyptian trumpets, with which the people were convened to the worship of Osiris and which were curved like rams' horns. Those which Moses made, as described by Josephus and represented on the arch of Titus, were straight, a cubit or more in length, the tubes of the thickness of a flute. Both extremities bore a close resemblance to those in use among us…Read the comment
