Context of Numbers 10:28
26Pagiel son of Ochran, was over the division of the tribe of the sons of Asher. 27Ahira son of Enan, was over the division of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali. This is the order by which Bnei-Yisrael, by their divisions, set out. 29Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out to the place about which Adonai said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will do good to you, because Adonai has spoken goodness to Israel.” 30But he said to him, “I will not go, because I would rather go to my own country and to my own people.”

True religion begins with the knowledge of the holy law of God, and humiliation for sin, but we must go on towards perfection, in acquaintance with Christ and his gospel, and those effectual encouragements, motives, and assistances to holiness, which it proposes. They took their journey…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-28The order of march described here is different from 2:3–34. There, all three Levitical clans carried the tabernacle and its furnishings in the center of the camp. The Gershonites and Merarites carried the structural parts of the tabernacle between Judah and Reuben. The Kohathites carried the most sacred…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-362. Make thee two trumpets of silver--These trumpets were of a long form, in opposition to that of the Egyptian trumpets, with which the people were convened to the worship of Osiris and which were curved like rams' horns. Those which Moses made, as described by Josephus and represented on the arch of Titus, were straight, a cubit or more in length, the tubes of the thickness of a flute. Both extremities bore a close resemblance to those in use among us…Read the comment
