Context of Luke 22:46
44So he prayed very hard in anguish. His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. 45When Jesus ended his prayer, he got up and went to the disciples. He found them asleep and overcome with sadness. He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up, and pray that you won’t be tempted.” 47While he was still speaking to the disciples, a crowd arrived. The man called Judas, one of the twelve apostles, was leading them. He came close to Jesus to kiss him. 48Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you intend to betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

Some have supposed from this that he was not divine as well as human; for if he was “God,” how could an angel give any strength or comfort? and why did not the divine nature “alone” sustain the human? But the fact that he was “divine” does not affect the case at all. It might be asked with the same propriety, If he was, as all admit…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 39-46Verses 39-46 Every description which the evangelists give of the state of mind in which our Lord entered upon this conflict, proves the tremendous nature of the assault, and the perfect foreknowledge of its terrors possessed by the meek and lowly Jesus. Here are three things not in the other evangelists. 1. When Christ was in his agony, there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. It was a part of his humiliation that he was thus…Read the comment
