Context of Isaiah 65:11
9I will bring ⌞with me⌟ Jacob’s descendant, one who will inherit my mountains from Judah. My chosen ones will inherit them. My servants will live there. 10The Sharon Plain will be a pasture for flocks. The Achor Valley will be a resting place for cattle and for my people who search for me. You have abandoned the Lord and forgotten my holy mountain. You have prepared a table for the god of good fortune and offered cups full of spiced wine to the goddess of destiny. 12Now I will destine you for death. All of you will bow to be slaughtered. I called, but you didn’t answer. I spoke, but you didn’t listen. You did what I consider evil. You chose what I don’t like. 13This is what the Lord God says: My servants will eat, but you will be hungry. My servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. My servants will be glad, but you will be ashamed.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 11That prepare a table for that troop "Who set in order a table for Gad" - The disquisitions and conjectures of the learned concerning Gad and Meni are infinite and uncertain: perhaps the most probable may be, that Gad means good fortune, and Meni the moon. "But why should we be solicitous about it?" says Schmidius. "It appears sufficiently, from the circumstances, that they were false gods; either stars, or some natural objects; or a mere fiction. The Holy…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11But ye are they that forsake the Lord - Or rather, Ye who forsake Yahweh, and who forget my holy mountain, I will number to the sword.‘ The design of this verse is to remind them of their idolatries, and to assure them that they should not escape unpunished. That forget my holy mountain - Mount Moriah, the sacred mountain on which the temple was built. That prepare a table - It was usual to set food and drink before idols - with the belief that the gods…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-16Verses 11-16 Here the different states of the godly and wicked, of the Jews who believed, and of those who persisted in unbelief, are set against one another. They prepared a table for that troop of deities which the heathen worship, and poured out drink-offerings to that countless number. Their worshippers spared no cost to honour them, which should shame the worshippers of the true God. See the malignity of sin; it is doing by choice what we know will…Read the comment
