Context of Ezekiel 24:6
4Cut the meat into pieces, all the best pieces, the thigh and shoulder. Fill the pot with the meatiest bones 5selected from the best sheep. Pile wood under the pot. Bring the mixture in the pot to a boil. Cook the bones that are in it well. “ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: How horrible it will be for that city of murderers, for that tarnished pot. Its tarnish will not come off. Empty the meat out of it piece by piece without choosing any particular piece. 7Blood is still in that city. The blood was poured on a bare rock. It wasn’t poured on the ground where dust would cover it. 8In order to stir up my fury so that I would pay that city back, I put the blood of its victims on a bare rock. Now that blood can’t be covered.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6Let no lot fall upon it - Pull out the flesh indiscriminately; let no piece be chosen for king or priest; thus showing that all should be involved in one indiscriminate ruin.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6Scum - Better, rust (and in Ezekiel 24:11-12). Bring it out piece by piece - It, the city; bring out the inhabitants, one by one, clear the city of them, whether by death, exile, or captivity. Let no lot fall upon it - In the captivity of Jehoiakim and in that of Jehoiachin, some were taken, others left. Now all shall be removed.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6-8The cooking pot was too dirty to clean. Jerusalem was full of blood that she had shed and left uncovered. The Old Testament required that people cover the blood of animals killed for meat with earth (Leviticus 17:13). By leaving the blood of innocent victims uncovered, Jerusalem was doubly guilty. Her own blood would rightly be splashed on the rocks (compare Psalm 137:8–9).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. scum--not ordinary, but poisonous scum, that is, the people's all-pervading wickedness. bring it out piece by piece--"it," the contents of the pot; its flesh, that is, "I will destroy the people of the city, not all at the same time, but by a series of successive attacks." Not as Fairbairn, "on its every piece let it (the poisonous scum) go forth." let no lot fall upon it--that is, no lot, such as is sometimes cast, to decide who are to be destroyed…Read the comment
