Context of Ezekiel 24:5
3Tell these rebellious people a story. Tell them, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: Put the pot on the fire; put it on. Pour water in it. 4Cut the meat into pieces, all the best pieces, the thigh and shoulder. Fill the pot with the meatiest bones selected from the best sheep. Pile wood under the pot. Bring the mixture in the pot to a boil. Cook the bones that are in it well. 6“ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: How horrible it will be for that city of murderers, for that tarnished pot. Its tarnish will not come off. Empty the meat out of it piece by piece without choosing any particular piece. 7Blood is still in that city. The blood was poured on a bare rock. It wasn’t poured on the ground where dust would cover it.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Make it boil well - Let it boil over, that its own scum may augment the fire, that the bones - the soldiers, may be seethed therein. Let its contentions, divided counsels, and disunion be the means of increasing its miseries, רתחיה רתח rattach rethacheyha, let it bubble its bubbling; something like that of the poet: - "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble: Fire burn, and cauldron bubble." Very like the noise made by ebullition, when a pot of thick broth…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-14At first, the picture of a cooking pot seems positive. It makes people think about good food and shared meals. In many cultures, a meal brings people together in peace and joy. The pot was filled with choice pieces of meat from a sacrifice. A fire burned under the pot. The meat began to cook slowly. However, like many parables, this story has a sharp ending. What should have been a good meal became rotten and unclean. The best pieces of meat went into the…Read the comment
