Context of Ezekiel 24:5
3Recite a proverb to this rebellious house and say to them, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: “‘Set on the pot, set it on, pour water in it too; 4add the pieces of meat to it, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder; fill it with choice bones. Take the choice bone of the flock, heap up bones under it; boil rapidly, and boil its bones in it. 6“‘Therefore this is what the sovereign Lord says: Woe to the city of bloodshed, the pot whose rot is in it, whose rot has not been removed from it! Empty it piece by piece. No lot has fallen on it. 7For her blood was in it; she poured it on an exposed rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it up with dust.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Make it boil well - Let it boil over, that its own scum may augment the fire, that the bones - the soldiers, may be seethed therein. Let its contentions, divided counsels, and disunion be the means of increasing its miseries, רתחיה רתח rattach rethacheyha, let it bubble its bubbling; something like that of the poet: - "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble: Fire burn, and cauldron bubble." - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-14At first, the picture of a cooking pot seems positive. It makes people think about good food and shared meals. In many cultures, a meal brings people together in peace and joy. The pot was filled with choice pieces of meat from a sacrifice. A fire burned under the pot. The meat began to cook slowly. However, like many parables, this story has a sharp ending. What should have been a good meal became rotten and unclean. The best pieces of meat went into the…Read the comment
