Context of Ezekiel 24:5
3Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: Put the pot on the fire — put it on, and then pour water into it! 4Place the pieces of meat in it, every good piece — thigh and shoulder. Fill it with choice bones. Take the choicest of the flock and also pile up the fuel under it. Bring it to a boil and cook the bones in it. 6“‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: Woe to the city of bloodshed, the pot that has corrosion inside it, and its corrosion has not come out of it! Empty it piece by piece; lots should not be cast for its contents. 7For the blood she shed is still within her. She put it out on the bare rock; she didn’t pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Make it boil well - Let it boil over, that its own scum may augment the fire, that the bones - the soldiers, may be seethed therein. Let its contentions, divided counsels, and disunion be the means of increasing its miseries, רתחיה רתח rattach rethacheyha, let it bubble its bubbling; something like that of the poet: - "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble: Fire burn, and cauldron bubble." - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-14At first, the picture of a cooking pot seems positive. It makes people think about good food and shared meals. In many cultures, a meal brings people together in peace and joy. The pot was filled with choice pieces of meat from a sacrifice. A fire burned under the pot. The meat began to cook slowly. However, like many parables, this story has a sharp ending. What should have been a good meal became rotten and unclean. The best pieces of meat went into the…Read the comment
