Context of 1 Timothy 6:14
12Fight the good fight for the Christian faith. Take hold of everlasting life to which you were called and about which you made a good testimony in front of many witnesses. 13In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony in front of Pontius Pilate, I insist that, until our Lord Jesus Christ appears, you obey this command completely. Then you cannot be blamed for doing anything wrong. 15At the right time God will make this known. God is the blessed and only ruler. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. 16He is the only one who cannot die. He lives in light that no one can come near. No one has seen him, nor can they see him. Honor and power belong to him forever! Amen.

Commentaries on 1 Timothy 6:14
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14That thou keep this commandment without spot - Two things are mentioned here: That the commandment itself - the whole doctrine of Christ, should be kept entire. That his life should be agreeable to that doctrine. Keep it without spot - let there be no blot on the sacred book; add nothing to it; take nothing from it; change nothing in it. Deliver down to thy successors the truth as thou hast had it from God himself. Unrebukable - Let there be nothing in…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14That thou keep this commandment - Referring particularly to the solemn injunction which he had just given him, to “fight the good fight of faith,” but perhaps also including all that he had enjoined on him. Without spot - It seems harsh, and is unusual, to apply the epithet, “without spot” - ̓́ aspilos- to a command or doctrine, and the passage may be so construed that this may be understood as referring to Timothy himself - “That thou keep the…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-16Verses 11-16 It ill becomes any men, but especially men of God, to set their hearts upon the things of this world; men of God should be taken up with the things of God. There must be a conflict with corruption, and temptations, and the powers of darkness. Eternal life is the crown proposed for our encouragement. We are called to lay hold thereon. To the rich must especially be pointed out their dangers and duties, as to the proper use of wealth. But who…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ: The letters to Timothy and Titus describe Christ's comings, both past and future, as “epiphanies” or “appearances” (2 Timothy 1:10; Titus 2:11; 2 Timothy 4:1, 8; Titus 2:13). An epiphany is a divine intervention at a specific historical moment. The church exists between these past and future appearances of Christ. Christ’s first saving epiphany allowed for a new life. His future epiphany will bring final…Read the comment
