Context of Psalms 31:19
17Lord, do not let me become ashamed. I call to you for help. Cause evil people to become ashamed. Let them go to their graves and be silent there! 18May people that tell lies become silent. They insult righteous people. They are proud people, and they boast about themselves. You have prepared many good things to bless people who respect you. While everyone watches, you bless those who come to you for help. 20You give them a place to hide, and you keep them safe with you. When their enemies want to attack them, you take care of them. When their enemies speak lies against them, they are safe with you. 21Praise the Lord! When my enemies were all around me, he showed me that his faithful love is very great.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 19O how great is thy goodness - God's goodness is infinite; there is enough for all. enough for each, enough for evermore. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 19Oh how great is thy goodness - That is, in view of the divine protection and favor in such cases, or when thus assailed. The psalmist seems to have felt that it was an inexpressible privilege thus to be permitted to appeal to God with the assurance of the divine protection. In few circumstances do people feel more grateful for the opportunity of appealing to God than when they are reviled and calumniated. As there is nothing which we feel more keenly than…Read the comment
