Context of Matthew 15:33
31When the large crowd saw all this, they were very surprised. People who could not speak could now speak again. People who could not use their arms or their legs were now well again. Those people who could not walk very well could now walk again. Blind people could now see again. All the people praised God, and they said, ‘God of Israel, you are great.’ 32Then Jesus told his disciples to come to him. ‘I feel sorry for this crowd,’ he said to them. ‘They have been here with me now for three days. They do not have any food. I do not want to send them away while they are hungry. They might fall down during their journey because they are weak.’ The disciples said to Jesus, ‘This place is a long way from any houses. We cannot get enough bread here to feed so many people.’ 34Jesus asked them, ‘How many loaves of bread do you have?’ They replied, ‘We have seven loaves and a few small fish.’ 35Jesus told the crowd that they should sit down on the ground.

Commentaries on Matthew 15:33
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 33Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, etc. - Human foresight, even in the followers of Christ, is very short. In a thousand instances, if we supply not its deficiency by faith, we shall be always embarrassed, and often miserable. This world is a desert, where nothing can be found to satisfy the soul of man, but the salvation which Christ has procured.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 32-39Verses 32-39 The miracle recorded here - the feeding of the four thousand - took place on a mountain near the Sea of Galilee. The same account is recorded in Mark 8:1-10. The circumstances of the miracle are so similar to the one recorded in Matthew 14:14-21, as to need little additional explanation. Matthew 15:32 Three days, and have nothing to eat - This is not, perhaps, to be taken literally, but only that during that time they had been deprived of…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 29-39Verses 29-39 Whatever our case is, the only way to find ease and relief, is to lay it at Christ's feet, to submit it to him, and refer it to his disposal. Those who would have spiritual healing from Christ, must be ruled as he pleases. See what work sin has made; what various diseases human bodies are subject to. Here were such diseases as fancy could neither guess the cause nor the cure of, yet these were subject to the command of Christ. The spiritual…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 32-39The earlier feeding miracle (see Matthew 14:13–21) was for the Jews. This miracle extended the blessing to the gentiles. It continues the theme found in Matthew 15:27. By this miracle, Jesus showed that he is the true "bread of life" (see 16:5–12; John 6).Read the comment
