Context of Mark 15:28
26They put a notice there to show the reason why they were killing him. It said, ‘The King of the Jews’. 27They also put two robbers on crosses near to Jesus. One robber was on Jesus' right side. The other robber was on his left side. [The Bible says that this would happen. It says, ‘People thought of him as someone who did not obey God's Law.’] 29The people who walked near there insulted Jesus. They laughed at him and they said, ‘Oh! You said that you would destroy the temple. And you said that in three days you would build it again. 30If you can really do that, save yourself. Come down from the cross!’

- Isaiah 53:12So I will put him in a place of honour, as a great person deserves. He will share the good things that powerful men receive when they have won a battle. - Luke 22:37I tell you this: Long ago people wrote in the Bible what must happen to me. It says, “People will think that he is a wicked person.” And this must happen to me soon, so that it becomes true.’
- Hebrews 12:2As we run, we must always look towards Jesus. He is the one who trusted God completely. Our faith starts with him, and he will help us to trust God all the way to the end. Jesus accepted punishment on the cross. He chose to receive much pain. He did not think about being ashamed to die like that. He knew that God had prepared something very good for him that would make him happy. Now he has sat down at the right side of God to rule with him in heaven.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 16-41The crucifixion story is one of the most historically reliable events from ancient history. Why would the early church invent a story where its central figure died as a criminal? This story was offensive to Jews and seemed ridiculous to non-Jews (1 Corinthians 1:23).Read the comment
