Context of Psalms 31:22
20You give them a place to hide, and you keep them safe with you. When their enemies want to attack them, you take care of them. When their enemies speak lies against them, they are safe with you. 21Praise the Lord! When my enemies were all around me, he showed me that his faithful love is very great. When I was afraid, I said, ‘God is no longer with me!’ But I spoke too soon. When I called to you for help, you heard me and you answered me. 23Love the Lord, all you people who belong to him! If people serve the Lord faithfully, he keeps them safe. But if people are proud, he punishes them as they deserve. 24All you people who trust the Lord to help you, you should be strong and very brave!

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 22I said in my haste - Not duly adverting to the promise of God, I was led to conclude that my enemies were so strong, so numerous, and had so many advantages against me, that I must necessarily fall into and by their hands; however, I continued to pray, and thou didst hear the voice of my supplication.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 22For I said in my haste - In my fear; my apprehension. The word rendered “haste” means properly that terror or alarm which causes one to flee, or to endeavor to escape. See an illustration of this idea in the case of David himself, in 1 Samuel 23:26. I am cut off - That is, I shall…Read the comment
