Context of Isaiah 2:12
10Go up to the rocks in the hills! Find a hole in the ground where you can hide! Hide from the Lord's great power, because he is coming to punish you! He rules with great authority! 11The Lord will bring proud people down low. People who boast will have to stop. On that day, people will see that only the Lord is great. Yes! The Lord Almighty will choose his great day. On that day, he will judge all the proud people who think that they are great. He will bring them all down very low. 13The Lord will cut down the great cedar trees in Lebanon, and the oak trees in Bashan. 14He will bring down the high mountains and the highest hills.

Commentaries on Isaiah 2:12
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12The day - This expression evidently denotes that the Lord would inflict severe punishment upon every one that was lofty. Such a severe infliction is called “the day of the Lord of hosts,” because it would be a time when “he” would particularly manifest himself, and when “he” would be recognized as the inflicter of that punishment. “His” coming forth in this manner would give “character” to that time, and would be the prominent “event.” The punishment of…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-22Verses 10-22 The taking of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans seems first meant here, when idolatry among the Jews was done away; but our thoughts are led forward to the destruction of all the enemies of Christ.
