Context of Isaiah 2:12
10Go among the rocks and hide in the dust From the terror of the Lord and from the splendor of His majesty. 11The proud look of man will be degraded And the arrogance of men will be humbled, And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day. For the Lord of hosts will have a day of reckoning Against all who are proud and arrogant And against all who are lifted up, That they may be degraded. 13And the wrath of God will be against all the cedars of Lebanon [west of the Jordan] that are high and lifted up, Against all the oaks of Bashan [east of the Jordan], 14Against all the high mountains, Against all the hills that are lifted up,

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12The day - This expression evidently denotes that the Lord would inflict severe punishment upon every one that was lofty. Such a severe infliction is called “the day of the Lord of hosts,” because it would be a time when “he” would particularly manifest himself, and when “he” would be recognized as the inflicter of that punishment. “His” coming forth in this manner would give “character” to that time, and would be the prominent “event.” The punishment of…Read the comment
