Context of 2 Chronicles 9:25
23The kings of every nation in the world wanted to talk to Solomon. They wanted to listen to the wisdom that God had given to him. 24Every year, people who came to visit Solomon brought him gifts. They brought things that were made from silver and gold, as well as clothes, weapons, spices, horses and mules. Solomon had places to keep 4,000 horses that pulled his chariots. He also had 12,000 horses. He kept them in the cities that he had chosen for this and also in Jerusalem where he lived. 26He ruled over all the kings around Israel, from the Euphrates river as far as the Philistines' country and the border of Egypt. 27While Solomon ruled as king, there was as much silver in Jerusalem as stones! There was as much wood from cedar trees as there were fig trees that grew in the low hills in the west.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25Four thousand stalls for horses - See the note on 1 Kings 4:26, where the different numbers in these two books are considered. The Targum, instead of four thousand, has מאה ארבע arba meah, four hundred.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13-31Verses 13-31 The imports here mentioned, would show that prosperity drew the minds of Solomon and his subjects to the love of things curious and uncommon, though useless in themselves. True wisdom and happiness are always united together; but no such alliance exists between wealth and the enjoyment of the things of this life. Let us then acquaint ourselves with the Saviour, that we may find rest for our souls. Here is Solomon reigning in wealth and power…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2525. Solomon had four thousand stalls--It has been conjectured [Gesenius, Hebrew Lexicon] that the original term may signify not only stall or stable, but a number of horses occupying the same number of stalls. Supposing that ten were put together in one part, this would make forty thousand. According to this theory of explanation, the historian in Kings refers to horses [see 1Ki 10:26]; while the historian in Chronicles speaks of the stalls in which they…Read the comment
