Context of 2 Chronicles 15:18
16King Asa also told his grandmother Maakah that she could no longer have authority as the Queen Mother. This was because she had made a disgusting Asherah pole to worship. Asa cut down the Asherah pole and he burned it in the Kidron Valley. 17Asa did not remove the altars on all the hills in Israel, but he served the Lord faithfully for his whole life. He brought into God's temple the things that he and his father had made as gifts for God. They used silver and gold to make some of these things. 19There were no more wars in Judah until Asa had been king for 35 years.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 18The things that his father had dedicated - As it was a custom to dedicate a part of the spoils taken from an enemy to the service and honor of God, it is natural to suppose that Abijah, having so signally overthrown Jeroboam, ( 2 Chronicles 13:15-19;), had dedicated a part of the spoils to the Lord; but they had not been brought into the temple till this time. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 8-18The Chronicler described Asa’s response using the prophet’s exact words, but Asa's actions exceeded the general advice. When Asa heard the prophecy, he bravely started a wide-ranging reform. He began by removing the offensive idols that had returned to the land (see 2 Chronicles 14:5). Complete trust in God had won the war against the Cushites, and fully renewing the covenant brought peace to the promised land (2 Chronicles 15:15).Read the comment
