Context of Matthew 15:30
28Then Jesus answering said to her, O woman, thy faith [is] great. Be it to thee as thou desirest. And her daughter was healed from that hour. 29And Jesus, going away from thence, came towards the sea of Galilee, and he went up into the mountain and sat down there; and great crowds came to him, having with them lame, blind, dumb, crippled, and many others, and they cast them at his feet, and he healed them: 31so that the crowds wondered, seeing dumb speaking, crippled sound, lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. 32But Jesus, having called his disciples to [him], said, I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat, and I would not send them away fasting lest they should faint on the way.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 30Those that were - maimed - . Wetstein has fully proved that those who had lost a hand, foot, etc., were termed by the Greeks. Kypke has shown, from Hippocrates, that the word was also used to signify those who had distorted or dislocated legs, knees, hands, etc. Mr. Wakefield is fully of opinion that it means here those who had lost a limb, and brings an incontestable proof from Matthew 18:8; Mark 9:43. "If thy hand cause thee to offend, Cut It Off; it is…Read the comment

Maimed - Those to whom a hand or foot was wanting. See Matthew 18:8. To cure them - that is, to restore a hand or foot - was a direct act of creative power. It is no wonder, therefore, that the people wondered. And they glorified the God of Israel - To glorify here means to praise; to acknowledge his power…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 29-39Verses 29-39 Whatever our case is, the only way to find ease and relief, is to lay it at Christ's feet, to submit it to him, and refer it to his disposal. Those who would have spiritual healing from Christ, must be ruled as he pleases. See what work sin has made; what various diseases human bodies are subject to. Here were such diseases as fancy could neither guess the cause nor the cure of, yet these were subject to the command of Christ. The spiritual…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 29-31Jesus returned to an area with mostly Gentiles (non-Jews) and performed many miracles. Although God mainly sent Jesus for Israel (Matthew 15:21–28), Jesus also started a new era for Gentile salvation (1:3, 5–6; 2:1–12; 4:12–16; 8:5–13; 15:21–28; 28:16–20). These healings show that God's kingdom began with the work of Jesus (8:1–9:34; 11:5–6; 12:28). the God of Israel: This suggests that the crowd (15:30) was mostly Gentile.Read the comment
