Context of Luke 9:27
25For what shall a man profit if he shall have gained the whole world, and have destroyed, or come under the penalty of the loss of himself? 26For whosoever shall have been ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed when he shall come in his glory, and [in that] of the Father, and of the holy angels. But I say unto you of a truth, There are some of those standing here who shall not taste death until they shall have seen the kingdom of God. 28And it came to pass after these words, about eight days, that taking Peter and John and James he went up into a mountain to pray. 29And as he prayed the fashion of his countenance became different and his raiment white [and] effulgent.

Jesus discourses concerning his own sufferings and death. And so far must his disciples be from thinking how to prevent his sufferings, that they must prepare for their own. We often meet with crosses in the way of duty; and though we must not pull them upon our own heads, yet, when they are…Read the comment

The last possibility is the most likely.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2727. not taste of death fill they see the kingdom of God--"see it come with power" (Mr 9:1); or see "the Son of man coming in His kingdom" (Mt 16:28). The reference, beyond doubt, is to the firm establishment and victorious progress, in the lifetime of some then present, of that new Kingdom of Christ, which was destined to work the greatest of all changes on this earth, and be the grand pledge of His final coming in glory.Read the comment
