Context of Job 23:10
8Lo, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive him; 9On the left hand, where he doth work, but I behold [him] not; he hideth himself on the right hand, and I see [him] not. But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold. 11My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside. 12Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.

Commentaries on Job 23:10
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10But he knoweth the way that I take - He approves of my conduct; my ways please him. He tries me: but, like gold, I shall lose nothing in the fire; I shall come forth more pure and luminous. If that which is reputed to be gold is exposed to the action of a strong fire, if it be genuine, it will lose nothing of its quality, nor of its weight. If it went into the fire gold, it will come out gold; the strongest fire will neither alter nor destroy it. So Job…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-12Verses 8-12 Job knew that the Lord was every where present; but his mind was in such confusion, that he could get no fixed view of God's merciful presence, so as to find comfort by spreading his case before him. His views were all gloomy. God seemed to stand at a distance, and frown upon him. Yet Job expressed his assurance that he should be brought forth, tried, and approved, for he had obeyed the precepts of God. He had relished and delighted in the…Read the comment
