Context of Job 23:10
8“Behold, I go forward (to the east), but He is not there; I go backward (to the west), but I cannot perceive Him; 9To the left (north) He turns, but I cannot behold Him; He turns to the right hand (south), but I cannot see Him. But He knows the way that I take [and He pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I will come forth as [refined] gold [pure and luminous]. 11My feet have carefully followed His steps; I have kept His ways and not turned aside. 12I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have kept the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10But he knoweth the way that I take - He approves of my conduct; my ways please him. He tries me: but, like gold, I shall lose nothing in the fire; I shall come forth more pure and luminous. If that which is reputed to be gold is exposed to the action of a strong fire, if it be genuine, it will lose nothing of its quality, nor of its weight. If it went into the fire gold, it will come out gold; the strongest fire will neither alter nor destroy it. So Job…Read the comment
