Context of Hebrews 2:6
4God bearing, besides, witness with [them] to [it], both by signs and wonders, and various acts of power, and distributions of [the] Holy Spirit, according to his will? 5For he has not subjected to angels the habitable world which is to come, of which we speak; but one has testified somewhere, saying, What is man, that thou rememberest him, or son of man that thou visitest him? 7Thou hast made him some little inferior to the angels; thou hast crowned him with glory and honour, [and hast set him over the works of thy hands;] 8thou hast subjected all things under his feet. For in subjecting all things to him, he has left nothing unsubject to him. But now we see not yet all things subjected to him,

Commentaries on Hebrews 2:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6But one in a certain place - This one is David; and the certain place, Psalm 8:4, Psalm 8:5, Psalm 8:6. But why does the apostle use this indeterminate mode of quotation? Because it was common thus to express the testimony of any of the inspired writers; ההוא אמר amar hahu kethab, thus saith a certain scripture. So Philo, De Plant. Noe: , he saith somewhere; , a certain person saith. Thus even the heathens were accustomed to quote high authorities; so…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6But one in a certain place testified - The apostle was writing to those who were supposed to be familiar with the Hebrew Scriptures, and where it would be necessary only to make a reference in general without mentioning the name. The place which is quoted here is Psalm 8:4-6. The “argument” of the apostle is this, that there stood in the sacred Scriptures a declaration that “all things were placed under the control and jurisdiction of man,” but that that…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 5-9Verses 5-9 Neither the state in which the church is at present, nor its more completely restored state, when the prince of this world shall be cast out, and the kingdoms of the earth become the kingdom of Christ, is left to the government of the angels: Christ will take to him his great power, and will reign. - Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. But--It is not to angels the Gospel kingdom is subject, BUT ... one ... testified--the usual way of quoting Scripture to readers familiar with it. Psa 8:5-7 praises Jehovah for exalting MAN, so as to subject all the works of God on earth to him: this dignity having been lost by the first Adam, is realized only in Christ the Son of man, the Representative Man and Head of our redeemed race. Thus Paul proves that it is to MAN, not to angels, that God has…Read the comment
