Context of Acts 26:10
8Why should it be judged a thing incredible in your sight if God raises the dead? 9I indeed myself thought that I ought to do much against the name of Jesus the Nazaraean. Which also I did in Jerusalem, and myself shut up in prisons many of the saints, having received the authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death I gave my vote. 11And often punishing them in all the synagogues, I compelled them to blaspheme. And, being exceedingly furious against them, I persecuted them even to cities out [of our own land]. 12And when, [engaged] in this, I was journeying to Damascus, with authority and power from the chief priests,

Commentaries on Acts 26:10
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 10Many of the saints - From what is said in this verse, it seems that Paul, before his conversion, was invested with much power: he imprisoned the Christians; punished many in various synagogues; compelled them to blaspheme - to renounce, and, perhaps, to execrate Christ, in order to save their lives; and gave his voice, exerted all his influence and authority, against them, in order that they might be put to death; and from this it would seem that there…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10Which thing I also did - Acts 8:3. And many of the saints - Many Christians, Acts 8:3. And when they were put to death - In the history of those transactions, there is no account of any Christian being put to death except Stephen, Acts 22:20. The Syriac renders it, “I joined with those who condemned them.” It is evident, also, that Paul instigated them in this persecution, and urged them on to deeds of blood and cruelty.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-23In his careful defense before King Agrippa, Paul argued that his message agreed fully with the Jewish faith. Paul explained that the charges against him were only because he believed that God had fulfilled the…Read the comment
