Context of Psalms 68:11
9You, God, showered abundant rain; you revived your inheritance when it languished. 10Your people settled in it; God, you provided for the poor by your goodness. The Lord gave the command; a great company of women brought the good news: 12“The kings of the armies flee — they flee!” She who stays at home divides the spoil. 13While you lie among the sheep pens, the wings of a dove are covered with silver, and its feathers with glistening gold.

Such is the literal translation of this passage; the reader may make of it what he pleases. Some think it refers to the women who, with music, songs, and dances, celebrated the victories of the Israelites over their enemies. But the publication of good news, or of any joyful event, belonged to the women. It was…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 11The Lord gave the word - The command, or the order. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-14Verses 7-14 Fresh mercies should put us in mind of former mercies. If God bring his people into a wilderness, he will be sure to go before them in it, and to bring them out of it. He provided for them, both in the wilderness and in Canaan. The daily manna seems here meant. And it looks to the spiritual provision for God's Israel. The Spirit of grace and the gospel of grace are the plentiful rain, with which God confirms his inheritance, and from which…Read the comment
