Context of Luke 13:15
13Then he laid his hands on her, and instantly she was restored and began to glorify God. 14But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, responded by telling the crowd, “There are six days when work should be done; therefore come on those days and be healed and not on the Sabbath day.” But the Lord answered him and said, “Hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you untie his ox or donkey from the feeding trough on the Sabbath and lead it to water? 16Satan has bound this woman, a daughter of Abraham, for eighteen years — shouldn’t she be untied from this bondage on the Sabbath day?” 17When he had said these things, all his adversaries were humiliated, but the whole crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things he was doing.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 15Thou hypocrite! - You condemn “me” for an action, and yet you perform one exactly similar. You condemn “me” for doing to a woman what you do to a beast. To her I have done good on the Sabbath; you provide for your cattle, and yet blame me for working a miracle to relieve a sufferer on that day. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-17Verses 10-17 Our Lord Jesus attended upon public worship on the sabbaths. Even bodily infirmities, unless very grievous, should not keep us from public worship on sabbath days. This woman came to Christ to be taught, and to get good to her soul, and then he relieved her bodily infirmity. This cure represents the work of Christ's grace upon the soul. And when crooked souls are made straight, they will show it by glorifying God. Christ knew that this ruler…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 15-16You hypocrites! Hypocrites are people who pretend to be good or righteous, saying one thing but doing another. The religious leaders would care for their own animals on the Sabbath, but they would not help another person in need. There is also a play on words in the text. The same word is used for "untie" (13:15) and "released" (13:16). The leaders would free their animals but not a daughter of Abraham, one of God's chosen people. whom Satan has kept…Read the comment
