Context of Hosea 5:8
6They go with their flocks and herds to seek the Lord but do not find him; he has withdrawn from them. 7They betrayed the Lord; indeed, they gave birth to illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will devour them along with their fields. Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah; raise the war cry in Beth-aven: Look behind you, Benjamin! 9Ephraim will become a desolation on the day of punishment; I announce what is certain among the tribes of Israel. 10The princes of Judah are like those who move boundary markers; I will pour out my fury on them like water.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah - The evil day and destruction, denounced, is now vividly pictured, as actually come. All is in confusion, hurry, alarm, because the enemy was in the midst of them. The “cornet,” an instrument made of horn, was to be blown as the alarm, when the enemy was at hand. The “trumpet” was especially used for the worship of God. “Gibeah and Ramah” were cities of Benjamin, on the borders of Ephraim, where the enemy, who had possessed…Read the comment
