Context of 1 Kings 13:22
20While they were sitting at the table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back, 21and the prophet cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because you rebelled against the Lord’s command and did not keep the command that the Lord your God commanded you — but you went back and ate food and drank water in the place that he said to you, “Do not eat food and do not drink water” — your corpse will never reach the grave of your ancestors.’” 23So after he had eaten food and after he had drunk, the old prophet saddled the donkey for the prophet he had brought back. 24When he left, a lion attacked him along the way and killed him. His corpse was thrown on the road, and the donkey was standing beside it; the lion was standing beside the corpse too.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-22Verses 11-22 The old prophet's conduct proves that he was not really a godly man. When the change took place under Jeroboam, he preferred his ease and interest to his religion. He took a very bad method to bring the good prophet back. It was all a lie. Believers are most in danger of being drawn from their duty by plausible pretences of holiness. We may wonder that the wicked prophet went unpunished, while the holy man of God was suddenly and severely…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 20-22Even though the old prophet lied, God spoke through him. The harsh judgment against the man of God was that he would not be buried in his family tomb due to his disobedience. This punishment happened swiftly. Disobeying God's clear command is a serious offense (Numbers 14:21–23; Deuteronomy 11:26–28).Read the comment

It could not be either Iddo or Ahijah, for both were alive after the events here related. Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense--It was at one of the annual festivals. The king, to give interest to the new ritual, was himself the officiating priest. The altar and its accompaniments would, of course…Read the comment
