Context of 1 Corinthians 1:5
3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4I always thank my God for you because of the grace of God given to you in Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in him in every way, in all speech and all knowledge. 6In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you, 7so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Ye are enriched - ye abound - in all utterance - ͅ, In all doctrine; for so the word should certainly be translated and understood. All the truths of God relative to their salvation had been explicitly declared to them; and they had all knowledge; so that they perfectly comprehended the doctrines which they had heard.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5That in every thing - In every respect, or in regard to all the favors conferred on any of his people. You have been distinguished by him in all those respects in which he blesses his own children. Ye are enriched by him; - compare the note at Romans 2:4. The meaning of this expression is, “you abound in these things; they are conferred abundantly upon you.” By the use of this word, the apostle intends doubtless to denote “the fact” that these blessings…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5God gave the Corinthian church many spiritual gifts. Two of these were the ability to speak well and the ability to understand spiritual truth. These gifts likely included special messages and insights from the Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 1:7). The church at Corinth took pride in these abilities. Speech and knowledge appear often in this letter. Paul acknowledges the many spiritual gifts God gave the church in Corinth. Later, he corrects their…Read the comment
