Context of Song of Songs 6:3

1Where has your beloved gone, O most beautiful among women? Which way has he turned? We will seek him with you. 2My beloved has gone down to his garden, to the beds of spices, to pasture his flock in the gardens and to gather lilies. I belong to my beloved and he belongs to me; he pastures his flock among the lilies. 4You are as beautiful, my darling, as Tirzah, as lovely as Jerusalem, as majestic as troops with banners. 5Turn your eyes away from me, for they have overcome me. Your hair is like a flock of goats streaming down from Gilead.

Commentaries on Song of Songs 6:3

• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-3The conversation at the end of this poem shows it is not a real event. The dream ends when the young women of Jerusalem ask the woman where her man has gone. The woman tells them not to worry about finding him—he is back in bed with her, enjoying his garden with its spice beds and lilies, which describes sexual intimacy.Read the comment
• Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 33. In speaking of Jesus Christ to others, she regains her own assurance. Literally, "I am for my beloved ... for me." Reverse order from So 2:16. She now, after the season of darkness, grounds her convictions on His love towards her, more than on hers towards Him (De 33:3). There, it was the young believer concluding that she was His, from the sensible assurance that He was hers.Read the comment
