Context of Hebrews 10:6
4because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me. In burnt offerings and sin offerings You took no delight. 7Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’” 8In the passage above He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor did You delight in them” (although they are offered according to the law).

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6Thou hast had no pleasure - Thou couldst never be pleased with the victims under the law; thou couldst never consider them as atonements for sin; as they could never satisfy thy justice, nor make thy law honorable.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 6In burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure - This is not quoted literally from the Psalm, but the sense is retained. The reading there is, “burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not required.” The quotation by the apostle is taken from the Septuagint, with the change of a single word, which does not materially affect the sense - the word ̓ ̓́ ouk eudokēsas- “ouk eudokesas” - “thou hast no pleasure,” instead of ̓ ̓́ ouk…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 5-7These verses quote Psalm 40:6–8. Psalm 40 is a song praising God, where the writer expresses a wish to follow God's will. The author of Hebrews sees Christ as the one speaking.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 66. burnt offerings--Greek, "whole burnt offerings." thou hast had no pleasure--as if these could in themselves atone for sin: God had pleasure in (Greek, "approved," or "was well pleased with") them, in so far as they were an act of obedience to His positive command under the Old Testament, but not as having an intrinsic efficacy such as Christ's sacrifice had. Contrast Mt 3:17.Read the comment
