Context of Ezekiel 26:14
12And they shall make a spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy merchandise; and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses; and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the waters. 13And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard. And I will make thee a bare rock; thou shalt be a place for the spreading of nets; thou shalt be built no more: for I Jehovah have spoken it, saith the Lord Jehovah. 15Thus saith the Lord Jehovah to Tyre: shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded groan, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee? 16Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay aside their robes, and strip off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble every moment, and be astonished at thee.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14Thou shalt be built no more - If this refer to Nebuchadnezzar's capture of the city, old Tyre must be intended: that was destroyed by him, and never rebuilt. But I doubt whether the whole of this prophecy do not refer to the taking of Tyre by Alexander, three hundred years after its capture by Nebuchadnezzar. Indeed it may include more recent conquests of this important city. It went through a variety of vicissitudes till 1289, when it and the neighboring…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12-14In the end, events happened just as the prophet had described earlier in picture language (metaphor). Tyre would become a bare rock. It would no longer be a great and wealthy city. Instead of being a busy center for ships and caravans from the east, it would become a quiet place. Local fishermen would spread their nets there to dry (Ezekiel 26:2). The great trading city would become empty and ruined. The Jewish historian Josephus wrote that Nebuchadnezzar…Read the comment
