Context of Matthew 26:14
12When she poured this perfume on My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial. 13I assure you and most solemnly say to you, wherever this gospel [of salvation] is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her [for her act of love and devotion].” Then one of the twelve [disciples], who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Jesus over to you?” And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver. 16And from that moment Judas began looking for an opportune time to betray Jesus.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-16Verses 14-16 There were but twelve called apostles, and one of them was like a devil; surely we must never expect any society to be quite pure on this side heaven. The greater profession men make of religion, the greater opportunity they have of doing mischief, if their hearts be not right with God. Observe, that Christ's own disciple, who knew so well his doctrine and manner of his life, and was false to him, could not charge him with any thing criminal…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14-16Judas sold himself to the authorities (see also John 11:57), kept it secret (Matthew 26:25), and led them to Jesus at the right time to arrest him (26:47–56; see John 18:2). Later, feeling guilty, Judas killed himself (Matthew 27:3–10; see Acts 1:15–22). Judas was known for his greed (Matthew 26:14–15; John 12:4–6; 13:29).
