Context of Matthew 28:7

5But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know you are looking for Yeshua who was crucified. 6He is not here; for He is risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. Go quickly now and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead. And behold, He’s going before you to the Galilee. There you will see Him. See, I have told you!” 8They quickly left the tomb, with fear yet with great joy, and ran to bring news to His disciples. 9And behold, Yeshua met them. “Shalom!” He said. They drew near, grasped his feet, and worshiped Him.

Commentaries on Matthew 28:7

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 7Go quickly and tell his disciples - Thus these faithful women proclaim the Gospel to those who were afterwards to be the teachers of the whole human race! Behold what honor God puts upon those who persevere in his truth, and continue to acknowledge him before men! That he is risen from the dead - There is a remarkable saying of R. Judah Hakkodesh, which some critics quote on this subject: "After Three Days the Soul of the Messiah shall Return to its body…Read the comment
• Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 7Tell his disciples - Mark adds particularly, “tell Peter.” This was a kind message to Peter, who had so recently denied his Lord. It would serve to cheer him in his despondency, and to assure him that his sin had been forgiven; and it shows the tender love and remembrance of Jesus, even for his unfaithful friends.Read the comment
• Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-10The four gospels each emphasize different aspects of the empty tomb and resurrection appearances. Matthew focuses on three things: the reunion of Jesus and his disciples in Galilee, the Jewish leaders' attempt to discredit the resurrection, and the importance of the ressurection for the salvation of the world.Read the comment
