Context of Luke 24:8
6He is not here, but He is risen! Remember what He told you when He was still in the Galilee, 7saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be executed, and on the third day rise up.” And they were reminded of His words. 9And when they returned from the tomb, they told all these things to the eleven and to everyone else. 10Now it was Miriam from Magdala, Joanna, the Miriam of Jacob and others together with them who were telling these things to the emissaries.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-12Women were the first to find the tomb empty and to hear the announcement of the resurrection. This is strong evidence for the historicity of the resurrection accounts. In first-century Judaism, women were not regarded as reliable witnesses, so the church would never have created stories in which women discovered the empty tomb.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-12(See on Mr 16:1-8; and Mt 28:1-5). 5. Why, &c.--Astonishing question! not "the risen," but "the Living One" (compare Re 1:18); and the surprise expressed in it implies an incongruity in His being there at all, as if, though He might submit to it, "it was impossible He should be holden of it" (Ac 2:24).Read the comment
