Context of Luke 24:8
6“He is not here, but he has risen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee, 7saying, ‘It is necessary that the Son of Man be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day’?” And they remembered his words. 9Returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the Eleven and to all the rest. 10Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them were telling the apostles these things.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-12Women were the first to find the tomb empty and to hear the announcement of the resurrection. This is strong evidence for the historicity of the resurrection accounts. In first-century Judaism, women were not regarded as reliable witnesses, so the church would never have created stories in which women discovered the empty tomb.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-12(See on Mr 16:1-8; and Mt 28:1-5). 5. Why, &c.--Astonishing question! not "the risen," but "the Living One" (compare Re 1:18); and the surprise expressed in it implies an incongruity in His being there at all, as if, though He might submit to it, "it was impossible He should be holden of it" (Ac 2:24).Read the comment
