Context of Jeremiah 33:3
1Then the word of Adonai came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still confined in the guard’s courtyard, saying: 2Thus says Adonai the Maker, Adonai who formed it to make it firm —Adonai is His Name. “Call to Me, and I will answer you— I will tell you great and hidden things, which you do not know.” 4For thus says Adonai, the God of Israel: “Concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are torn down against the siege ramps and against the sword, 5they are coming to fight with the Chaldeans, but they are about to fill them with the dead bodies of the people whom I will slay in My anger and in My fury. I have hidden My face from this city because of all their wickedness.

These idolaters go to their gods to get information relative to the issue of the present commotions; but there is no light in them. Ask thou, O Jeremiah, and I will tell thee the great and mighty things which even thou knowest not.Read the comment

Jeremiah was confined in the courtyard of the guard in the royal palace from late 587 BC, during the siege, until Jerusalem fell in August 586 BC (see Jeremiah 32:2).Read the comment

Jeremiah, as the representative of the people of God, is urged by God to pray for that which God has determined to grant; namely, the restoration.
