Context of Ezekiel 48:14
12It will be for them a portion set apart from the offering of the land, most holy, by the border of the Levites. 13Alongside the border of the kohanim, the Levites will have 25,000 in length and 10,000 in width. The entire length will be 25,000 and the width 10,000. They must not sell or exchange any of it or transfer the choice portion of the land, for it is holy to Adonai. 15The 5,000 that remain in the width, in front of the 25,000 thousand, will be for common use, for the city, for living and for pastureland. “The city will be in the midst of it, 16and will have these measurements: the north side; 4,500; the south side 4,500; the east side, 4,500; and the west side, 4,500.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9-14The holy portion was not exactly in the center of the land. There were seven tribal strips to the north and five to the south. Although not centrally located, the spiritual center had moved significantly north from Jerusalem. The importance of the holy portion for the Lord's temple is emphasized by its detailed dimensions and composition, unlike the brief descriptions of the tribal areas. This special portion was dedicated to God and could never be sold…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-351. Dan--The lands are divided into portions of ideal exactness, running alongside of each other, the whole breadth from west to east, standing in a common relation to the temple in the center: seven tribes' portions on the north, five in the smaller division in the south. The portions of the city, the temple, the prince, and the priesthood, are in the middle, not within the boundaries of any tribe, all alike having a common interest in them. Judah has the…Read the comment
