Context of Ezekiel 40:45
43Hooks, a handbreadth long, were fastened in the House all around. The flesh of the offering was to be placed upon the tables. 44Outside the inner gate in the inner court were chambers for the singers, one of which was at the side of the north gate, facing south. The one at the side of the east gate faced north. He said to me, “This chamber that faces toward the south is for the kohanim who keep charge of the House. 46The chamber that faces toward the north is for the kohanim who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, those from the sons of Levi who come near to Adonai to minister to Him.” 47Then he measured the court. It was 100 cubits long and 100 cubits wide, a square. The altar was in front of the House.

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-49The arrangements as to the land and the temple are, in many particulars, different from those subsisting before the captivity. There are things in it so improbable physically as to preclude a purely literal interpretation. The general truth seems to hold good that, as Israel served the nations for his rejection of Messiah, so shall they serve him in the person of Messiah, when he shall acknowledge Messiah (Is 60:12; Zec 14:17-19; compare Psa 72:11).
