Context of Ezekiel 27:28
26Your rowers have brought you into great waters. But the east wind will break you in the heart of the seas. 27Your riches, your wares, your merchandise, your sailors, your pilots, your caulkers, the traders of your merchandise, all your men of war that are in you, with all your company in your midst will fall into the heart of the seas on the day of your downfall. At the sound of the cry of your pilots the countryside will shake. 29All the oarsmen, the sailors and all the mariners of the sea will come down from their ships to stand on the ground. 30They will raise their voices over you and cry bitterly. They will throw up dust on their heads. They will roll themselves in ashes.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28The cry of thy pilots - When the ship was dashed against the rocks by the violence of the winds and the waves, and all hope of life was taken away, then a universal cry was set up by all on board. I have heard this cry, and nothing more dismal can be imagined, when the ship by a violent tempest is driving among rocks on a lee shore. Then "All lost! cut away the boat!" is more dreadful than the cry of fire at midnight.Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-36Verses 26-36 The most mighty and magnificent kingdoms and states, sooner or later, come down. Those who make creatures their confidence, and rest their hopes upon them, will fall with them: happy are those who have the God of Jacob for their Help, and whose hope is in the Lord their God, who lives for ever. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-36The second part of the prophet’s message to Tyre (see study note on Ezekiel 26:1–28:19) is a funeral song. The song compares Tyre’s past glory with its present loss. It connects with the previous chapter in several ways. Both speak directly to Tyre. Both describe Tyre as a gateway and a center of trade (see Ezekiel 26:1–2). Both end with the same message: Tyre has come to a terrible end and will exist no more (compare Ezekiel 26:21).Read the comment
