Context of Ezekiel 27:28
26Your oarsmen take you out to the high seas. But the east wind will break you to pieces far out at sea. 27Your wealth, merchandise and wares, your mariners, sailors and shipwrights, your merchants and all your soldiers, and everyone else on board will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck. The shorelands will quake when your sailors cry out. 29All who handle the oars will abandon their ships; the mariners and all the sailors will stand on the shore. 30They will raise their voice and cry bitterly over you; they will sprinkle dust on their heads and roll in ashes.

Commentaries on Ezekiel 27:28
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28The cry of thy pilots - When the ship was dashed against the rocks by the violence of the winds and the waves, and all hope of life was taken away, then a universal cry was set up by all on board. I have heard this cry, and nothing more dismal can be imagined, when the ship by a violent tempest is driving among rocks on a lee shore. Then "All lost! cut away the boat!" is more dreadful than the cry of fire at midnight.Read the comment

Those who make creatures their confidence, and rest their hopes upon them, will fall with them: happy are those who have the God of Jacob for their Help, and whose hope is in the Lord their God, who lives for ever. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-36The second part of the prophet’s message to Tyre (see study note on Ezekiel 26:1–28:19) is a funeral song. The song compares Tyre’s past glory with its present loss. It connects with the previous chapter in several ways. Both speak directly to Tyre. Both describe Tyre as a gateway and a center of trade (see Ezekiel 26:1–2). Both end with the same message: Tyre has come to a terrible end and will exist no more (compare Ezekiel 26:21).Read the comment
