Context of Ezekiel 18:8
6He has not eaten at mountain shrines or lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel. He has not defiled his neighbor’s wife or come near to a woman during niddah . 7He does not wrong anyone, returns his pledge for a debt, does not commit robbery, gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with a garment. He does not loan with interest or take unjust gain. He keeps his hand from iniquity, executes true justice between people, 9walks in My laws and keeps My statutes, behaving honestly. Such a person is just—he will surely live.” It is a declaration of Adonai. 10“Now suppose he fathers a son who is violent, who sheds blood and does any of these things to a brother

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 810. Hath not given forth upon usury - יתן לא בנשך beneshech lo yitten . נשך nasach signifies to bite; usury is properly so termed, because it bites into and devours the principal. Usury signifies, with us, exacting unlawful interest for money; and taking the advantage of a man's necessities to advance him cash on exorbitant profit. This bites the receiver in his property, and the lender in his salvation. 11. Neither hath taken any increase - In lending…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 8Usury - is the profit exacted for the loan of money, “increase” that which is taken for goods; both are forbidden Leviticus 25:36; Deuteronomy 23:19. The placing out of capital at interest for commercial purposes is not taken into consideration. The case is that of money lent to a brother in distress.Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 88. usury--literally, "biting." The law forbade the Jew to take interest from brethren but permitted him to do so from a foreigner (Ex 22:25; De 23:19, 20; Ne 5:7; Psa 15:5). The spirit of the law still binds us, that we are not to take advantage of our…Read the comment
