Context of 2 Chronicles 3:13
11The wingspan of the cheruvim was 20 cubits. One wing of the first cheruv was five cubits long and touched the wall of the House, while the other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the other cheruv. 12Similarly, one wing of the second cheruv was five cubits long and touched the wall of the House, while the other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the other cheruv. Thus the wingspan of these cheruvim was 20 cubits. They stood on their feet facing the main hall. 14Furthermore, he made the veil of blue, purple, crimson yarn and fine linen with cheruvim worked into it. 15In the front of the House he made two pillars 35 cubits high, each with a capital on the top measuring five cubits.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13Their faces were inward - literally, as in the margin. Instead of looking toward one another, with heads bent downward over the mercy Seat, like the cherubim of Moses Exodus 37:9, these of Solomon looked out from the sanctuary into the great chamber (“the house”). The cherubim thus stood upright on either side of the ark, like two sentinels guarding it.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10-13The figures shaped like cherubim were made of expensive wild olive wood and covered with gold. Similar carvings have been found in Mesopotamia, Syria, and Canaan. Ancient temples in Phoenicia show the deity's throne supported by two animals. The sides of ancient Canaanite…Read the comment

They were of colossal size, like the Assyrian sculptures; for each, with expanded wings, covered a space of ten cubits in height and length--two wings touched each other, while the other two reached the opposite walls; their faces were inward, that is, towards the…Read the comment
