Context of 2 Chronicles 3:13
11The combined length of the angels’ wings was 30 feet. A wing of one of the angels was 7½ feet long and touched the wall of the building. Its other wing was 7½ feet long and touched one wing of the other. 12The wing of the other one of the angels was 7½ feet long and touched the other wall of the building. Its other wing was 7½ feet long and touched the wing of the first. So the angels’ combined wingspan was 30 feet. They stood on their feet and faced the main hall. 14Solomon made the canopy of violet, purple, and dark red cloth and of linen and decorated it with angels. 15He made two pillars for the front of the temple. They were 53 feet long, and the capital on each pillar was 7½ feet ⌞high⌟.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13Their faces were inward - literally, as in the margin. Instead of looking toward one another, with heads bent downward over the mercy Seat, like the cherubim of Moses Exodus 37:9, these of Solomon looked out from the sanctuary into the great chamber (“the house”). The cherubim thus stood upright on either side of the ark, like two sentinels guarding it.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10-13The figures shaped like cherubim were made of expensive wild olive wood and covered with gold. Similar carvings have been found in Mesopotamia, Syria, and Canaan. These figures were a key feature of ancient thrones. Cherubim were creatures that combined the symbolism for royalty (lion) with strength (bull), speed (eagle), and wisdom (human). Ancient temples in Phoenicia show the deity's throne supported by two animals. The sides of ancient Canaanite…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 10-1310-13. two cherubims--These figures in the tabernacle were of pure gold (Ex 25:1-40) and overshadowed the mercy seat. The two placed in the temple were made of olive wood, overlaid with gold. They were of colossal size, like the Assyrian sculptures; for each, with expanded wings, covered a space of ten cubits in height and length--two wings touched each other, while the other two reached the opposite walls; their faces were inward, that is, towards the…Read the comment
