Luke 14:10

10But when thou art invited, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honour in the presence of them that sit eating with thee.

Context of Luke 14:10

8When thou art invited by any man to a wedding, sit not down in the best place; lest a more honourable man than thou be invited by him; 9And he that invited thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when thou art invited, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honour in the presence of them that sit eating with thee. 11For whoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. 12Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou givest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
