Context of Genesis 19:8
6And Lot went out at the door to them, and shut the door after him, 7And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out to you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only to these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. 9And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one man came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed hard upon the man, Lot, and came near to break the door. 10But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8Behold now, I have two daughters - Nothing but that sacred light in which the rights of hospitality were regarded among the eastern nations, could either justify or palliate this proposal of Lot. A man who had taken a stranger under his care and protection, was bound to defend him even at the expense of his own life. In this light the rights of hospitality are still regarded in Asiatic countries; and on these high notions only, the influence of which an…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 6-9Lot strongly opposed the men’s plan to harm his guests. He spoke against their wicked actions. However, he wrongly offered his daughters to protect the visitors, which showed a serious moral failure. At first, Lot had only set up his tent near Sodom. Over time, he became closely tied to the city, and its influence shaped his life.Read the comment
