Context of Leviticus 2:14
12As for the oblation of the firstfruits, ye shall offer them unto Yhwh: but they shall not be burnt on the altar for a sweet savour. 13And every oblation of thy grain offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy grain offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt. And if thou offer a grain offering of thy firstfruits unto Yhwh, thou shalt offer for the grain offering of thy firstfruits green heads of grain dried by the fire, even barley beaten out of full heads. 15And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a grain offering. 16And the priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten grain thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an offering made by fire unto Yhwh.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14Green ears of corn dried by the fire - Green or half-ripe ears of wheat parched with fire is a species of food in use among the poor people of Palestine and Egypt to the present day. As God is represented as keeping a table among his people, (for the tabernacle was his house, where he had the golden table, shewbread, etc)., so he represents himself as partaking with them of all the aliments that were in use, and even sitting down with the poor to a repast…Read the comment

All religious services must be seasoned with grace. Christianity is the salt of the earth. Directions are given about offering their first-fruits at harvest. The grain offering provided bread for the priest's daily needs, as priests did not have farmland.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1414. a meat offering of thy first-fruits--From the mention of "green ears," this seems to have been a voluntary offering before the harvest--the ears being prepared in the favorite way of Eastern people, by parching them at the fire, and then beating them out for use. It was designed to be an early tribute of pious thankfulness for the earth's increase, and it was offered according to the usual directions.Read the comment
