Context of Leviticus 2:14
12You may present them to the Lord as an offering of firstfruits, but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13You are to season each of your grain offerings with salt; you must not omit from your grain offering the salt of the covenant with your God. You are to present salt with each of your offerings. “If you present a grain offering of firstfruits to the Lord, you are to present fresh heads of grain, crushed kernels, roasted on the fire, for your grain offering of firstfruits. 15You are to put oil and frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16The priest will then burn some of its crushed kernels and oil with all its frankincense as a food offering to the Lord.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14Green ears of corn dried by the fire - Green or half-ripe ears of wheat parched with fire is a species of food in use among the poor people of Palestine and Egypt to the present day. As God is represented as keeping a table among his people, (for the tabernacle was his house, where he had the golden table, shewbread, etc)., so he represents himself as partaking with them of all the aliments that were in use, and even sitting down with the poor to a repast…Read the comment

It was designed to be an early tribute of pious thankfulness for the earth's increase, and it was offered according to the usual directions.Read the comment
