Context of Exodus 8:14
12And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto Yhwh because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh. 13And Yhwh did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields. And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank. 15But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as Yhwh had said. 16And Yhwh said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14They gathered them together upon heaps - The killing of the frogs was a mitigation of the punishment; but the leaving them to rot in the land was a continual proof that such a plague had taken place, and that the displeasure of the Lord still continued. The conjecture of Calmet is at least rational: he supposes that the plague of flies originated from the plague of frogs; that the former deposited their ova in the putrid masses, and that from these the…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-15The second plague was the plague of frogs (8:2). The Egyptians gave special honor to amphibians such as frogs. These animals can live both in water and on land. Because of this, Egyptians connected them with life and survival. Egyptians were very concerned about life after death. Through this plague, God showed that frogs do not control life. They do not have special power over survival. Some people suggest that this plague happened naturally after the…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 8-158-15. Pharaoh called, ... Intreat the Lord, that he may take away the frogs from me--The frog, which was now used as an instrument of affliction, whether from reverence or abhorrence, was an object of national superstition with the Egyptians, the god Ptha being represented with a frog's head. But the vast numbers, together with their stench, made them an intolerable nuisance so that the king was so far humbled as to promise that, if Moses would intercede…Read the comment
